The steps to configure DNS Made Easy with Office 365 are as follows:

If you’ve closed Office 365, start by gathering the information you need to create the DNS records required for your domain.

There is a reference article that lists the records and a short description of what each is used for here.

You may need to add some or all of the records outlined below based on what services you will be using for this domain.

Step 1: Enter Managed DNS 

At the top of the Control Panel, Click the DNS Menu and select Managed DNS from the drop down.

Step 2: Choose your domain

Select a domain from the either the Recently Updated Domains box, or start typing the domain name in the textbox on the “Select Domain” tab.

 Step 3: Select the Records tab

Click on the Records tab within the control panel.

Step 4: Add TXT record to verify your domain

  • Add a new TXT record. Under the TXT Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.

  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: @ (Leave Blank)
  • C) Data: your_verification_string_here A text string provided by Office 365. The Office 365 Add a domain wizard provides the value that you use to create this record.
  • D) TTL: 1800

Step 5: Add DNS records for Exchange Online

  • Create a new MX record. Under the MX Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data provided specific to your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel). Example:
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: @ (Leave Blank)
  • C) Server: your_MX_token_here.mail.protection.outlook.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • D) MX Level: 0
  • E) TTL: 1800
  • Remove any obsolete MX records. If you have an old MX record for this domain that routes email to another location, delete it.
  • Add a new CNAME record. Under the CNAME Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: autodiscover
  • C) Alias to: autodiscover.outlook.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • D) TTL: 1800
  • E) Click on Submit
  • Add a new TXT record. Under the TXT Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: @ (Leave Blank)
  • C) Data: v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all
  • D) TTL: 1800
  • E) Click on Submit
  • Duplicate this exact record as an SPF type record. Under the SPF Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record. Add the same data for the record.

 Step 6: Add the additional record required for Office 365

  • Add a new CNAME record. Under the CNAME Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel). Example:
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: msoid
  • C) Alias to: clientconfig.microsoftonline-p.net. (including the trailing dot)
  • D) TTL: 1800
  • E) Click on Submit

Edit DNS Records for Lync Online

  • Create a new SRV record. Under the SRV Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name/Service and Protocol: _sipfederationtls._tcp
  • C) Priority: 100
  • D) Weight: 1
  • E) Port: 5061
  • F) Host/Target: sipfed.online.lync.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • G) TTL: 1800
  • H) Click on Submit
  • Add the data for the additional SRV record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name/Service and Protocol: _sip._tls
  • C) Priority: 100
  • D) Weight: 1
  • E) Port: 443
  • F) Host/Target: sipdir.online.lync.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • G) TTL: 1800
  • H) Click on Submit
  • Add a new CNAME record. Under the CNAME Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: sip
  • C) Alias to: sipdir.online.lync.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • D) TTL: 1800
  • E) Click on Submit
  • Add a new CNAME record. Under the CNAME Record section, click the plus sign to add a new record.
  • Add the data for your record (which you would view in your Office 365 control panel).
  • A) Domain: exampledomain.com
  • B) Name: lyncdiscover
  • C) Alias to: webdir.online.lync.com. (including the trailing dot)
  • D) TTL: 1800
  • E) Click on Submit
