DNS Made Easy Secondary DNS to GoDaddy

Secondary DNS through DNS Made Easy allows you to keep management of your DNS at GoDaddy while still using the power of DNS Made Easy for redundancy.

In a secondary DNS configuration your domain information (your zone) is transferred to secondary DNS servers. This provides copies of your zone to be found on additional servers and the extra level of redundancy that you will want to keep your site online all of the time.

NOTE: Setting up Secondary DNS can be complicated for many people new to DNS. It takes a good amount of understanding. But this tutorial can be used for anyone that is a little tech savvy and is willing in a little time. If this tutorial is too confusing we highly suggest users switch to our Managed DNS services which has world-leading up-time and performance.

Here are the steps to enable DNS Made Easy as a Secondary DNS to GoDaddy:

USER ACTION
Step 1:  In order for GoDaddy to allow transfers to secondary name servers (such as DNS Made Easy’s name servers) you need to make sure your domain is using GoDaddy’s Premium DNS services. If you do not already use GoDaddy’s Premium DNS services then please contact GoDaddy to get this added to your account and applied to all of your domains.

Step 2: Create an account in DNS Made Easy. This is a very simple process and we have a video explaining how easy it is to do here.NOTE: For secondary DNS services there is a trust relationship that the primary name servers allow the secondary name servers to request a zone transfer (the full domain information) and the secondary name servers require a trust of knowing they are getting the updates from the correct primary name servers. We will explain how to get this information from both GoDaddy and DNS Made Easy now.

Step 3: On the GoDaddy side you need to note what IPs you need to use to tell the secondary name servers (DNS Made Easy) to request the zone information from. If you are using GoDaddy’s Premium DNS (as this tutorial is for) it can be found here. As you can see the systems are:

p3pldnsxfr02.prod.phx3.secureserver.net (72.167.238.110)
p3pldnsxfr01.prod.phx3.secureserver.net (72.167.238.111)
